Why Prospective Homebuyers Should Always Get a Sewer Camera Inspection

When you find the perfect home, the last thing you want to think about is the plumbing or the problems that could be lurking underground. However, if you don’t know what shape your sewer system is in, your dream home could quickly become a nightmare.

Take, for example, a couple who purchased a home in the Fountain Square neighborhood in Indianapolis. Their house was a new construction, built on an existing foundation with existing utilities, in one of the hottest neighborhoods in Indy. Because it was a new home, the buyers opted not to do a sewer inspection, assuming everything would be fine. A few days later, disaster struck. Their toilets were no longer flushing waste away. The waste began backing up and flooding into their new home. It turns out, the sewer line was not connected to the city system. The pipes carrying the waste away from the toilets weren’t connected to anything – so eventually the pipes filled up and the waste had nowhere to go but back inside the brand new home.

This turned into a costly, time-consuming and life-disrupting problem for the new homeowners to fix. It all could have been avoided if there had been a NuFlow Indy camera inspection done before closing. Many home inspectors only recommend inspecting the sewer line if a house was built in the 1980s or earlier, but this example illustrates the importance of always adding on a sewer camera inspection.

Not every inspection will discover such a disastrous problem, but it could find cracked pipes, root intrusions or corrosion that could eventually lead to a total pipe collapse. Uncovering problems before closing will give buyers the opportunity to negotiate repairs or a reduced price with the seller. Sometimes the inspection will simply reveal the sewer line is in great shape, giving the buyer peace of mind. Either way, we’ll provide you with a copy of the HD video so you can see your sewer line yourself.

The good news for both buyers and sellers is that NuFlow Indy can discover problems during the camera inspection and quickly fix them without digging up the property. We use existing access points to create a new pipe inside the old one, resulting in a seamless “pipe-within-a-pipe” that solves backup problems, seals cracks and prevents further corrosion and root intrusion. Our no-dig, trenchless sewer line repair will save you time and money, while avoiding the mess of digging up around your brand new home.

If we do find a problem during the sewer camera inspection process, we’ll deduct the inspection cost from the price of the repair. The inspection can take as little as 30 minutes to complete, but will allow you to make a life-changing purchase with confidence.
